About me

Here’s the usual short bio I use for quick reference:

Derek Lundy’s latest book, Borderlands: Riding the Edge of America,” is about his motorcycle ride along the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada, and was published by Knopf Canada in May 2010. It will come out in paperback in Canada and the United States in October 2011. It was recently shortlisted for a B.C. Book Prize. He has also written The Bloody Red Hand: A Journey Through Truth, Myth and Terror in Northern Ireland; The Way of a Ship: A Square-Rigger Voyage in the Last Days of Sail, which was a B.C. Book Prize finalist, and a Globe and Mail Best Book in 2002; Godforsaken Sea: Racing the World’s Most Dangerous Waters, which was a best seller in Canada and the United States and has been translated into nine languages; and a short biography, Scott Turow: Meeting the Enemy. He was also General Editor of Barristers and Solicitors in Practice, a comprehensive text on the practice of law in Canada. He has written stories and reviews for numerous magazines and newspapers in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. He has degrees in history, international relations and law, and has held a wide variety of jobs—for example as a long-distance truck driver, factory worker, and museum guard, but was also for a while an executive editor at Butterworths Legal Publishers and a freelance contract lawyer. He has sailed almost all his life in small boats, including a passage around Cape Horn, and transatlantic in a square-rigger. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and lives with his wife and daughter on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia
